The forest of Parada de Sil consists mainly of oak, chestnut, birch, willow and strawberry trees.
The use of the forest was multiple. From it, wood was taken for the fire in the houses and to heat the communal ovens, and wood was used in the stables.
In winter, above all, the cattle were taken to gnaw the forest (uces, gorse, ivy, carpazos, carqueixas, retamas…) since the pastures were frozen and the forest at that time was well eaten by the cattle.
In addition, both in the forest and in any mountain the toleiras were made, so that the land was dug and sowed there the rye or barley.
